Consul General’s Visit to Northwest Territories (May 27–29, 2019) Consul General Mrs. Abhilasha Joshi paid a courtesy call on Hon’ble Bob McLeod, Premier Northwest Territories; Hon’ble Jackson Lafferty, Speaker of the NWT Legislative Assembly and Mayor of Yellowknife Her Worship Rebecca Alty, during her visit to Yellowknife and discussed ways to enhance and strengthen engagement with the NWT. Consul General had informative meetings with officials from Departments of Economic Division; Industry & Tourism; Energy & Infrastructure and Environment & Natural Resources. She met with officers of the RCMP and the Joint Task Force North and was briefed on their role and activities in the Northern Region. Consul General visited the NWT Diamond Centre which showcases the region’s strength in diamond exploration and production. She was also briefed by the Director of Aboriginal Consultation and Indigenous Affairs on role of indigenous communities in local governance. She also met with some of the members of Indian diaspora during her visit to Yellowknife.

Indian Delegation to CEM-10/MI-4, Vancouver (May 26, 2019) Consul General Mrs. Abhilasha Joshi met with the Indian Delegation to the 10th Clean Energy Ministerial CEM-10 and 4th Mission Innovation MI-4 being hosted this year by Government of Canada at Vancouver, from 27-29 May 2019. The Indian delegation was led by Shri. Anand Balagopalan, AS &FA, Dept of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology and Scientists Dr. Sanjay Bajpai (DST) and Dr. Sangita Kasture (DBT). Shri Anjani Nandan Sharan, Joint Secretary represented the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy at the event. Prof. Dr. Nemy Banthia, CEO IC-IMPACTS which have joint projects with DST and DBT, also met the delegation, along with Consul Commerce Mr. Manjish Grover and Vice Consul Mr. Dinesh Mehta.

Consular Camps in Saskatoon (May 18–19, 2019) On request of Indian citizens and Canadian citizens of Indian origin in Canada residing in Saskatoon city, the Consulate organized a camp for consular services there on Sunday, 19 May 2019. India-Canada Cultural Association in Saskatoon helped organize the camp. More than 150 applications for Indian passport, visa, OCI, surrender/renunciation of Indian citizenship and miscellaneous services were accepted in this camp. Before the camp, a public interaction for addressing consular queries was hosted on Saturday, 18 May 2019. A 4-member team from Consulate visited Saskatoon for this camp. Consulate team also met Indian students and prominent members of Indian diaspora during Saskatoon visit.

Cultural Heritage - Festivals of India Shimla Summer Festival (June 2-7, 2019) The Shimla Summer Festival is a celebration of the bounty of the harvest, and the festivities honor the advent of the summer. Spread out over five days; the festival is a gala of musical performances, cultural attractions, folk performances, local handicraft exhibitions, as well as with quirky activities like fashion shows, dog shows, stalls that sell artisanal ware and serve up local cuisine; it is an event that has something for everybody. The Shimla Summer Festival is scheduled to be held from 2 June 2019 until 7 June 2019, right at the break of the lovely summer Himachali months. Conducted annually since the 1960s the Shimla Summer Festival is a celebration of the bountiful harvest of the year, and always draws large crowds to the state capital. The festival is held every year at the Ridge in Shimla. The Ridge is a large, open space situated conveniently in the middle of the city that has ample area to play host to the festival. 3. India exceeds China in Fintech funding – NAR Reports India surpassed China as Asia’s leading market for venture capital-backed fintech funding amid Beijing’s clampdown on peer-topeer lending. According to a report by U.S. market research company CB Insights, funding for fintech startups in India jumped to $286 million in the first three months of the year, up nearly 27% from the previous quarter. Nikki Asian Review reports that China, by contrast, such funding dropped to $192 million, a decrease of 89% compared to the previous quarter. Two Punjab pilots part of IAF's first all-women crew to fly Mi-17 chopper Two women IAF officers from Punjab were part of the country's first all-women crew to fly a medium lift helicopter Mi-17 V5 on Monday. Flight Lieutenant Parul Bhardwaj (Captain), Flying Officer Aman Nidhi (co-pilot) and Flight Lieutenant Hina Jaiswal (Flight Engineer) flew the chopper, which took off from a forward air base in South Western air command, a defence release said. "The all women crew flew a Mi-17 V5 helicopter for a Battle Inoculation Training mission taking off and landing from restricted areas at a forward air base in South Western air command," it said. Bhawana Kanth scripts history, becomes India's first woman pilot to qualify for combat missions Scripting history, Flight Lieutenant Bhawana Kanth on Wednesday became the first woman pilot of the Indian Air Force (IAF) to qualify to undertake combat missions on a fighter jet.
